~T4 levels are still too high so we're increasing the dosage of Tapizole.
~She's tachycardic. Vet wants to listen again to make sure there's no murmur.
~Creatinine levels are too high. Vet wants her on a low protein, prescription diet. Hoping we can bring them down fast and avoid potential kidney failure.
~Another $110 blood test in one month to see how she's responding to the new dosage.
~She also needs a teeth cleaning, badly. Not sure if I'm going to be able to afford it all simultaneously.

Surprisingly, with all of this, she's the same old girl she's always been. Maybe a little cranky with my mom's two boy cats, but that's nothing new. She likes people, not cats. She's more energetic than most felines her age. I was asked by three separate people at the vet's if she was *really* 14 years old.

But the nagging worry about her health is there, in the back of my head...

Kathryn is in search of a full time art job. I'm sick of no insurance and tax HELL. I miss the energy of shared deadlines. I can't believe it, but after 6 years, I want back into the office.

The eleventh hour approacheth and I'm looking pretty good. I'm hiring Guy with a Truck to pack the pods tomorrow. So today, I'm insanely packing the last of my things in the house.

But since I'm not sure til I get the minivan whether the bike will fit, I'm looking at putting a rack on the back and not sweating the interior space.

Hello my lovelies

Sorry I've been so absent lately. I had a cold for two weeks, now Graah's got it.

And this weekend, my laptop died. I think I'm still in shock. $2200 two years ago and I can't start the mother fracker. I'm off to CompUSA this afternoon to buy an enclosure in the hopes that I can retrieve all my crucial data. Remember, this computer is my form of living, so this is all very freaky to me.

I was planning on buying an iMac this year, but can't afford it yet, so I'm kinda dazed and attempting to figure out the best course of action. I'm going to be borrowing Graah's laptop until I can afford to replace my old comp, but I'm not sure how I'm going to replace all the "softwear."

This is not necessarily a whining session, just a state of the katey union. I may not be on tribe much while I'm attempting to rebuild my empire.

Forgive the spam? I blogged it and emailed it out but I always prefer to play it safe...

I can't believe it, I'm moving! To Sausalito of all places!

I'm loading the Uhaul from my old garage in the afternoon of Saturday, the 5th of August.
Then unloading at the new house on Sunday the 6th.

I'm planning on making this the easiest move ever. Two shifts, easy load. All of my things should be in the garage on Saturday, so no having to go up two flights of stairs to get things out of the house. Then we're done.

Sunday should be a late morning/midday unload at the new house.

Anybody willing and able to help? In exchange you get my undying gratitude, chips and soda on Saturday, prolly pizza and beer on Sunday. Oh yeah, and big Katey hugs!

Ok, so Graah and I have a 6:55am flight from OAK on Friday morning for Comic Con. I don't know anyone who's going to want to drive us there at 5:30am, so we're thinking about crashing nearby the night before.

More Hippy than you can handle...

Heh, it's an odd way to title this thread, but there's a ring of truth in it. After a crazy 5 1/2 years at the Titanium Lounge, I'm packing my bags and moving to Marin!!!

...Sausalito to be exact. I'd been planning on moving later this year but an incredible opportunity popped up its head and I'm jumping on it. I'm still in shock. Didn't think I'd be crossing the bridge until I'd had at least a decade of city life in SF under my belt. But heck, I can't believe it's already been 7 1/2 years since I drove a Uhaul with a semi drugged Shelby 480 miles to SF from LA.

I've got two books to submit, Comic Con to attend, Graah's birthday to celebrate and the actual move to pack for and accomplish, all in the next three weeks. But somehow, all I can think about is morning coffee on the front porch of the new place... And yoga on the back deck...and the view of the water from the bedroom window...and and and...

hehehe, and it's all Laura's fault!

Adobe Troubleshooting (for fun and profit?)

Wow. I just spent a day and a half running spyware detectors, antivirus scans, clearing caches and temp files, defragging my hard drive and deleting the preferences file for Illustrator to try and fix the lag problem I had. When I'd select text, the program would freeze for 2-4 seconds before I could paste it.

And the end result (thanks to Adobe's troubleshooting knowledge base) was a conflict with the printer drivers on my default printer. I selected something else as a default, and voile, I'm back in business. But seriously, a day and a half!!!
Can you believe it? I sure can't. But on the upside, my system performance is prolly optimal now with all the maintainence I've done yesterday and today.

The Corpse Bride: Burton vs. Estes

Saw The Corpse Bride last night. It was lovely and funny and cool, but no "Nightmare Before Christmas". Still, having heard a version of the story told by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, I understand. The actual story takes about 5 minutes to tell. But tell it she does.

It's part of a book on tape set called The Creative Fire: Myths and Stories about the Creative Cycle. In it she also calls upon the myth of Demeter and Persephone to illustrate the balance of cycles, reminding us that when we are still we're not just stagnant; we *are* potential.

I forget main point of The Corpse Bride tale from this set, so now that I've watched the movie I'm going to pull it out and listen to it for the first time in years. Didn't want that impression tainting my view while I watched the film (made that mistake with B.S.' Dracula, never again).

short-lived series that has addicted every person I've loaned my DVD
set out to.

It's the only DVD set I own that has received more viewing by more
people than Band of Brothers.

Seriously, if you have a few hours here and there that you like to
fill in with video entertainment you owe it to yourself to watch at
least the first few episodes.

That said, if there is interest I believe an expedition is being
planned for Friday night (there was 1 Thurs midnight showing however
it's sold out). If you haven't seen the series then you aren't
allowed in the theaters. No really, they'll kick you right out.

Yes, this year Graah wins for the best birthday present I've ever gotten. Even Mom conceded to it.

It was in a manila envelope labeled BAD NEWS

and inside it said...

You only have 10 days to pack for your trip to Hawaii.

One of his buddies is getting married on Oahu at the end of the month, which I've known about. What I didn't know is that he bought plane tickets for me as well!

I'm flipping out I'm so excited! I've never been there. I'm gonna see Pearl Harbor! We're staying at a hotel on Waikiki Beach.

Oh dear, I think I just pee'd a little (jk).

Let's just make a long story short. I've gotten informal feedback from a pro and taken three online tests. They all indicate I have a HIGH probability of having ADD inattentive type, and should probably get formally tested. I may be opening up a can of worms by posting about this in such a public forum. But I'm pretty public when it comes to my mental and spiritual growth.

I know several of you on this tribe have already been diagnosed. I know that there different schools of thought about diagnosis and treatment of it.

I'm REALLY on the fence about medication. I've gone that route before and it was moderately helpful, but something I'm not sure I feel comfortable with doing long term. Also I still haven't broken down and gotten solo health insurance, so hefty prescriptions are prolly not in my immediate future.

A couple of things I have read about in the past few days is how diet and exercise can help. I can vouch for yoga playing a very beneficial role. But I also seem to have a hard time sticking to a good diet and exercise regimen. Feh. Calgon take me away...

I'm not even sure if the point is moot, since I haven't been professionally diagnosed. But I can tell you one thing. Considering this as a possibility is actually a relief. One book title I ran into yesterday told the story of my life. It was "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Crazy or Stupid?"

So folks I won't be on tribe much, at least not during the day between looking for an apartment and now I need to start looking for another job...don't ask! Yes I'm still working but it just is NOT working out well for me or the office I'm in.
So I will be lurking at night or if I have spare moment. hopefully I'll be around a bit more later.
But maybe not I really need to find a job that has a full days work for me I get bored waaaayyy too easily..which is sort of what's going on now..that and a jerk of a co-worker.

Wondercon - w00t!

Wish I'd felt better, was running a fever the whole time I was there. But man! I'm glad I went!!!!

We drive in the rain, finding parking minutes before Joss Whedon and the cast of Firefly are supposed to be talking. Walk a few blocks in the downpour and as we enter, Graah suggests I see if I can check in at the professional booth. So I give it a shot. Not only do I get a pass, I get a guest pass for him as well. Free, for the whole weekend!!! Sadly, I was too sick to take advantage of it and was only there for 3 hours.

We caught the tail end of the Serenity trailer. Looked pretty darn good, but then, we must be Firefly junkies: We trekked to the Moscone Center just for this appearance. Nathan Fillian (Mal), Summer Glau (River) and Adam Baldwin (yum! oh, I mean, Jayne) all sat in on the discussion, which was very amusing.

Nathan kept on making references to River and saying "cuckoo!" and shaking an empty "bag of marbles".

I got to shake Herb Jefferson's hand (The original Boomer from Battlestar Galactica) but froze up and got to shy to say hello to Apollo!!!!

Graah got a DVD of Casshern and got one for Immortel, a couple of fantasy movies we've been dying to see. Everyone was drooling over the trailers online last year. Both are very beautiful. Far more CGI than we expected in both films. Tripping story lines. I don't think we regret our purchases. Though mine is so blatantly black market, the quality is shoddy. I'd like to get a better quality one at some point if I can.

Ok, running out of steam and I've got a ton of work to do. Just thought I'd give the con a little attention.

Cheshire and I want to invite y'all over for a pasta feed next week. I wanted to do a poll and see which worked better for y'all: Monday or tuesday. (monday is Satanstines, and I didn't know if people were into the putrecent lovey dovey BS)

The general plan is to cook up a Vat-o-Pasta, some white sauce, some red sauce, some sausage, some chicken, some garlic bread. It'll be a grab and growl sort of thing and all of the leftovers will go home with those who need something in the fridge.

I posted this in a private tribe, and one of the members strongly suggested I put it up here. A bit uncomfortable, but here goes...

NOT a whine thread. Just a query. How do you deal when you're so broke you're not sure where your next meal is coming from?

~I've been living on ramen and peanut butter. Started dumping the water out of my noodles and mixing the seasoning up with some butter.

~Spidra's offered to come visit me, and that makes me very happy. It's easy to feel cut off when you can't get out. Anybody else in town want to swing by in the near future?

~Also, trying to deal with mild depression about not being able to make bills. I think at some level, this definitely puts a strain on my relationship, but Graah's been nice. He says the main thing that's hard on him is not feeling like he can help.

So, I'm not asking for pity. I'm asking for suggestions or encouragement. This is scary. Figured I should come to my friends instead of pulling into a solitary downward spiral.

I'm surfing on my broken notebook. The video chip is frazzled and I get a strange, teal color bleed. But it's 99% beautiful. So, I'm playing with it 'til the shipping label arrives and I can send it back in for a replacement.

This puppy is amazing. A 17" widescreen ultra brite monitor (I'll never go back to plain lcd again). Quad speakers, built in webcam, a gig of memory, a 60mb 7200rpm hard drive. This is without doubt the nicest thing I've ever owned.

I wonder how long it will take to get the replacement...

My room's going to be open SOON! It's about 10x12 with a good sized closet and built in bookshelves. It has a view of the back yard. We have every possible convenience including: washer/dryer, skylights, dishwasher, garbage disposal, hi-speed DSL with wireless. This house is HUGE, and beautiful from my perspective. Well, actually, there's no phone book. But I channeled Steve Martin this morning when I got a phone call from my optometrist and they said my vintage glasses are back from the lab with new lenses. This is muy happy-making to me, since I lost my old pair on my birthday this year.

Frisbee made an astute assumption. See, they're 50's aluminum frames and look kinda like pink gold. She said it made sense and made her happy that I'd be wearing rose colored glasses. Now, to find out how I can get down there! I'd love to have them before the opera tonight!!!

Ooooh that smell

So, I'm sitting here in my living room at 11 o'clock at night and I can smell smoke. And it really smelled disturbing. So I checked online and sure enough, There's a 25,000 acre fire burning in the Napa-Solo county border, and residents all over the Bay Area have been calling in to report it.

I'm glad it's not closer, but that many acres bugs. I hope nobody's homes are jeopardized. And for the non human inhabitants of the area...I'm sorry babies. sigh...

A New Opportunity...

Several of you have expressed interests in learning yoga from me. And a member of this tribe actually called me on the fact that I had been remiss in addressing her inquiries about it. My initial reaction was guilt. But I sat down with myself and asked myself "Self, what's that about?"

Part of that was because I didn't have the emotional, physical or spiritual energy to conceive of or plan a teaching schedule at that time. But it's never left my mind that this is something I want and need to do. I asked my teacher once, "How dare I think I can tell someone else how to do this?" His response was, "How dare you not share what you have learned?"

A number of things have made this a much more distinct possibility in the near future. I've got more free time, peace at home (finally!)and a possible location to teach small groups to (in the Mission, no less).

So, in an effort to get the ball rolling, and to get over my self doubts, I thought I'd throw this out to the Posse and open up a conversation for those who have expressed interest.
